Inclusive design critiqued

Source: New Media Creative, 23 July 2001

In an article in New Media Creative Nico Macdonald review the discussion about inclusive design and design-for-all and suggests a way forward for design for disability.

Reviewing the interest in inclusive design represented by the Include 2001 and Universal Usability Conferences Nico Macdonald assesses the value of inclusive design for Web designers and critiques the design-for-all approach. He argues that the way forward for design for disability is to tie a user-centred approach to the promotion of technological progress - an approach from which everyone stands to benefit - and to move beyond plain functionality to create products that are a joy to use.
