The New York Times explores the various ways that mobile phone users in the States are provided with information about remaining free monthly minutes.

The States, like Britain, sells mobile phone packages with different numbers of free minutes calling time per month. Between timers in the phone and services from the provider detailing use, it might be an easy matter to keep track of how many minutes remain to you at any particular time. However, Susan Stellin of the New York Times discovers it is an inexact science.
